South Shale Ridge
Located in western Colorado near the town of DeBeque, South Shale Ridge's spectacular geological formations twist through miles of canyons and rugged desert landscape.
South Shale Ridge is known for its rugged solitude and beauty, bald eagles and big game, and as the very vulnerable home of several of Colorado’s most endangered native wildflowers and other plants, including Uinta Basin hookless cactus and DeBeque phacelia. Center for Native Ecosystems is working closely with several partner groups in an effort to defend this proposed wilderness against proposed oil and gas drilling.
